China conducted a nationwide crackdown on counterfeit and substandard goods in 2025, with the main destruction event held in Changsha, Hunan Province and simultaneous operations across 25 provincial-level regions. The joint operation, organized by the Office of the Leading Group for Quality Power Construction and the State Administration for Market Regulation, targeted products affecting public safety and livelihoods.
Authorities destroyed over 200 categories of illicit goods including food, pharmaceuticals, apparel, tobacco, alcohol, cosmetics, pirated publications, gas stoves, and fire safety equipment. The operation eliminated a total of 3,683 tons of counterfeit products valued at 432 million yuan (approximately $60 million). All materials were processed using environmentally friendly disposal methods to prevent secondary pollution.
This annual campaign demonstrates China’s strengthened enforcement of intellectual property rights and product quality standards. The focused destruction of hazardous goods—particularly food, medicine, and safety equipment—reflects the government’s priority on protecting consumer health and market order.
The synchronized nationwide operation highlights improved interdepartmental coordination in China’s market supervision system. Since its inception, the program has significantly reduced counterfeit goods circulation while promoting green disposal practices in compliance with environmental regulations.
