On June 6th, AIA Group (01299) announced significant changes in its leadership structure. Xie Shirong, the independent non – executive Chairman and independent non – executive director, will step down from his position effective September 30th, 2025. Xie Shirong has been a pivotal figure in AIA’s history, serving as the first chairman of the board and holding the position for 14 years. He has been associated with AIA and its predecessor, AIG Group, for over 60 years.
New Chairman Appointment
Sir Mark Tucker has been appointed as the Independent non – Executive Chairman and independent non – executive Director of AIA, subject to regulatory approval. His term will commence on October 1, 2025. Tucker brings extensive experience in the financial services industry, having served in senior roles across Asia, the United States, the United Kingdom, and Africa.
Return of Du Jiaqi
Du Jiaqi, who previously served as the CEO and President of AIA Group from 2010 to 2017, will return to the company. At 67 years old, Du Jiaqi has over 40 years of senior experience in the financial services industry. He will also serve as the chairperson of the Nomination Committee and a member of the Remuneration Committee, effective from October 1, 2025. Du Jiaqi will complete his term as the non – executive chairman of HSBC Holdings Limited on September 30, 2025.

Xie Shirong, aged 87, has been a cornerstone of AIA’s leadership. He was appointed as a non – executive director on September 27, 2010, elected as the non – executive chairman on January 1, 2011, and transitioned to the role of independent non – executive Chairman and independent non – executive director on March 23, 2017. In addition to his role as chairman, Xie Shirong has also served as the chairperson of the nomination committee and as a member of the Remuneration Committee and the Risk Committee.
