On May 23, 2025, the website of the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection and the National Supervisory Commission (CCDI) announced that Zhou Gonghua, the former Party Secretary and Chairman of Bank of China Insurance Co., Ltd., is under investigation for suspected serious disciplinary violations and illegal activities.
Zhou Gonghua, born in May 1962, joined Bank of China in 1995 and held various positions, including deputy head of both the Sichuan Branch and Beijing Branch of Bank of China. He became the chairman of Bank of China Insurance in July 2016 and served for six years before retiring.
Prior to Zhou, other senior executives from Bank of China have also faced scrutiny. For example, Ge Chunyao, the former president of Bank of China Sichuan Branch, was placed under investigation in March. This indicates a broader effort to address issues within the financial sector.
