Nathan McCauley, CEO of Anchorage Digital, publicly refuted recent reports that the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) is investigating the crypto bank. Speaking at the Consensus 2025 conference in Toronto on Wednesday, McCauley called the allegations “bullshit.”
Background on the Report
Last month, Barron’s published an article citing sources that claimed the Eldorado Task Force, the DHS’s unit focused on money laundering and financial crime, had reached out to former Anchorage employees to inquire about the company’s practices and policies. Neither Anchorage nor DHS responded to the initial report.
Anchorage’s Response
Following the Barron’s article, Anchorage Digital engaged legal counsel to investigate the claims. According to McCauley, their inquiry found no evidence of an ongoing DHS investigation.
“At this point, we are not under investigation,” McCauley said. “Some people might say that article is bullshit. It’s nice to clear that up.”
Anchorage Digital’s Compliance Reputation
Anchorage Digital is widely recognized for its strict regulatory compliance within the cryptocurrency industry. Notably, in December last year, Anchorage secured the BitLicense from the New York Department of Financial Services (NYDFS), one of the most challenging and rigorous licenses for crypto firms.
