Nvidia (NVDA) CEO Jensen Huang says it will give away chips for free.
“It’s good to have the U.S. standard as the standard,” Huang said Tuesday at a Milken Institute conference on why it’s important not to restrict the flow of powerful AI chips to countries like China.
“The market we’re left with is very huge,” Huang added.
Huang said the free flow of chips would help bring tax revenue back to the U.S. and create jobs.
But that wasn’t the context in which Huang was taking action under the Trump administration.
The U.S. government has imposed restrictions on the export of Nvidia’s H20 chips to China without a license. The move reflects the administration’s view of protecting national security and could also be a way to further pressure China during the trade war.
Nvidia said it would be forced to take a $5.5 billion quarterly charge related to the Trump administration’s decision.
